Visas
VIU supports students and professors in obtaining their visa for entry to Italy and in applying for their residency permit once in Italy.
Students can check if they need a study visa to enter Italy simply by filling out this questionnaire on the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs' website: https://vistoperitalia.esteri.it/home/en
Before departure, students in need of a visa are provided an invitation letter by VIU. This letter, specifying the dates of the program and information on accommodation, is necessary for the visa request.
Each Consulate and Embassy has different procedures concerning appointments and documents to be provided for Visa requests, therefore please look for this information before applying for a Visa.

All non-EU-Professors need to apply for visa and Nulla Osta (entry clearance for employment), even if for less than 90 days. You should apply for a work visa to enter Italy (subordinate work for university professors). Before you can apply for this type of visa at the Italian Consulate in your own country, VIU needs to obtain for you a Nulla Osta (entry clearance) from the Prefettura di Venezia (Office of the Italian Ministry of the Interior).
The full immigration procedure is in three phases:
1. application for a "nulla osta" - procedures are implemented by VIU
2. once the nulla osta is issued, finalize procedures in your local Italian consulate for getting the visa.
3. Within 8 days after your arrival in Italy, submit your residency permit request. An appointment at the Questura di Venezia (Police Immigration Office) will follow.
VIU will support you in phase 1 in applying for Nulla Osta and, once in Italy, in phase 3.

Accommodation
Students who will attend the Summer Sessions can apply for accommodation on VIU campus, San Servolo Island, for the entire duration of the activity.
Places in single, double, 3-bed and 4-bed rooms are available in the residential halls on the island of San Servolo. All options in shared rooms (divided by gender), will mix nationalities and universities of origin.
Accommodation on campus is managed by a services company called San Servolo Servizi Metropolitani.
Students in the accommodation on campus will have the use of a common room equipped with a refrigerator and microwave. There are no kitchen facilities.

Cost/person/session:
in a 4-bed room: €343;
in a 3-bed room: €343
in a double room: €410;
in a single room: €570.
The price is to be paid in full and in advance to confirm the reservation, and is non-refundable.
A deposit (200 Euro, cash only) will be required before entering the room, refunded after departure unless there has been any damage to the room.
• Rooms are regularly cleaned twice a week
• Linen, towels and blankets are provided; linen and towels are changed once a week
• There are free laundry facilities available (washing and drying - users must provide their own detergent)
• No outside guests are allowed in the residential halls
• No pets are allowed in the residential halls
• Cooking is strictly prohibited in the bedrooms of the residential halls
• Smoking is strictly prohibited in the residential halls
• Noise levels should be kept to a minimum, especially after 10 pm
• No kitchen facilities available in dorms: a cafè and a restaurant are available on campus and students will have the use of a common room with microwave and refrigerator
• Reception is open from 8.30 am to 9 pm. Contact the staff there for any problem in your room (light bulbs, heating, A.C., …)
• A night porter is on duty from 10 pm to 8.30 am.
