VIU Plenary Workshop on Tradition

Friday, April 17, 2026
9 am - 1 pm | Room 1G

The plenary workshop is a key VIU event in which professors and students of the Globalization Program explore and discuss a theme chosen together at the beginning of the semester.
This semester the theme will be Tradition.

Tradition is the thread that connects the past with the present. This semester’s plenary workshop will facilitate discussions about VIU students’ and professors’ traditions back home. Students will present ways they have engaged with local traditions during the semester. In addition, different VIU classes will present the importance of the maintenance, engagement, and respect of traditions.

Participants will offer their interpretation of an aspect of this theme, working as a class group or on their own, taking inspiration from what has come out of the program of the courses they are attending or presenting their personal experience. It is an opportunity for students and professors to share their talents, through academic talks, but also acting, reading, and singing.

The program will include performances, dialogues, music and dances with the participation of VIU GP students and professors.

Some talks, presentations and videos will stem from the courses taught by:
Gretchen Walters, Université de Lausanne
Natalia Gusmerotti, Università degli Studi di Roma Tor Vergata
Massimo Brunzin, Carola Drago, Laura Ventruto, Venice International University
Shaul Bassi, Università Ca' Foscari Venezia
Valeria Vasilyeva, European University at St. Petersburg

Detailed program

The Plenary Workshop is a unique opportunity to recognize the VIU community as one, breaking the borders between the courses, training students to address topics of the disciplines taught to a broader audience, revealing the hidden talents of the participants, and forging multicultural and transgenerational bonds.
