Pinocchio da San Servolo in giro per il mondo

Inauguration of exhibition: Saturday 16, December at 4pm

The exhibition is dedicated to the most famous and much loved wooden puppet: Pinocchio.

The Adventures of Pinocchio is a canonical piece of children's literature, written by Italian author, Carlo Collodi, first as a serial, and then published as a book in February 1883.

The novel, that recounts the mischievous adventures of an animated marionette named Pinocchio and his father, a poor woodcarver named Geppetto, has been adapted in over 260 languages worldwide, and is considered by some to be the most widely read book after the Bible.

The exhibition is organized by Venice International University, San Servolo srl and the Carlo Collodi Foundation is divided into three sections:

- "Dai legni di Geppetto ai legni di Sigfrido Bartolini"

- "Pinocchio around the world"

- "Un libro d'artista: Le avventure di Pinocchio di Antonio Nocera"

The first is a selection of photographs, sketches and original drawings, carved wood, and prints selected from the 1983 commemorative publication of Le Avventure di Pinnochio, illustrated by Sigfrido Bartolini.

The second section consists of a display that documents how the story of Pinocchio has travelled the world. The documentation is arranged by geographic area, and spans the globe from Japan, the Americas and back to Italy.

The third section presents works of the artist Antonio Nocera, who has produced three publications on The Adventures of Pinocchio. It reflects on Pinocchio as part of the cultural "baggage" that Italian emigrants carry within.

The exhibition is open from
December 16, 2017 - February 13, 2018.

Workshops for children will be organized during the entire duration of the exhibition, in cooperation with Il Sestante di Venezia.

Check the flyer (in Italian) for information and reservations.
