Summer Training Course on Circular Economy: Policies and Practices

Venice International University and ACR+ are pleased to offer the Summer Training Course on Circular Economy: Policies and Practices.

This training course is meant to provide civil servants (public administrations) and professionals (utilities and firms) with an overview on the EU Circular Economy policies and practices as well as with a practical guide for their implementation at national, regional and local level.
High-level international experts/practitioners will present case studies/best practices related to, among the others: resource management, SME’s support, behavioural change, legal and economic instruments.

The course will include different sessions, such as
_lectures by international experts;
_workshops and open discussion, where experiences from experts and participants are shared, analysed, and discussed in order to design and implement circular economy strategies;
_site visits, where practical experiences on the implementation of successful circular economy activities are offered.

The final objective is to guide the participants in the development of concrete projects that can be implemented individually as well as jointly submitted for funding within EU, regional and national programmes.

 

The Organizers
The Association of Cities and Regions for Sustainable Resource management (ACR+) is an international network of members who share the common aim of promoting the sustainable consumption of resources and management of waste through prevention at source, reuse and recycling. It currently has about 90 members, mainly local and regional authorities as well as national networks of local authorities representing around 1100 municipalities, in Europe and in the neighborhood countries.
Through its activities, ACR+ strives to develop the expertise and skills of public authorities in effective waste-product-resource policies, as well as encourage practical action. The association provides support to regional and local authorities in their new challenges and promotes cooperation and partnership to develop eco-efficient solutions.

Venice International University (VIU) is an international higher education and research center founded in 1995 and composed of 17 international Universities and institutions, ranging from the Far East (China and Japan) to the Far West (Usa and Québec) passing through the Mediterranean and Europe (Israel, Russia, Germany, France, Belgium, Switzerland and Italy).
The mission of VIU is to offer advanced training and research in an international context, by promoting the exchange of ideas and knowledge.

VIU developed together with ACR+ the agenda and hosts the training.

The Venue

The Training will be held at the premises of the Venice International University (VIU) on the island of San Servolo in the Venice Lagoon and 10 minutes boat ride from Piazza San Marco.

Accommodation

If you wish to stay on the San Servolo Campus, VIU has booked a slot of rooms (with private bathroom) for this event on Campus from July 2 to 5, 2017.

Supplementary Art Course Fall 2017: Introduction to Italian Renaissance Painting

VIU is glad to integrate its art program with the Supplementary Art Course on Introduction to Italian Renaissance Painting.  

 

Course Aim: 

The main aim of this short course is to provide an introduction to one of the most fascinating period of the Italian Art.

Through the discussion of several paintings presented in class, the participants will build an understanding of the main characteristics of the Renaissance style and of the conditions that led to it. Another point of interest will be to follow the evolution of Renaissance from its beginning in Florence to its spreading through other Italian cities until its maturity during the "great Cinquecento". The art works will be analyzed against the background of religious, social and political conditions in Renaissance Italy.

The course will involve a final site visit to Florence.

 

Participation to the Course:

"Italian Renaissance Painting" is offered to anyone interested and as a supplementary Art course to VIU students.

Students can participate also as auditors, the entrance at the Uffizi Museum during the trip in Florence is however sponsored only to VIU students who have attended all classes. 

 

All participants attending all classes and the visit will receive a final certificate of attendance.

To obtain a certificate of completion, you must attend all classes, participate to the site visit in Florence and write a short paper of 4500-6000 words: VIU will issue a certificate recognizing the completion of a 20 hours course - the final evaluation will consider participation to class discussion (20% of the final grade) and the short paper (80% of the final grade). To students enrolled in Art and Architecture in Renaissance Venice prof. Modesti will also recognize a bonus towards the final evaluation of her course.

SUSPORT was featured at the Adriatic Sea Forum 2022, which took place in Bari on Oct. 6th and 7th 2022.

The Adriatic Sea Forum is the most relevant event dedicated to maritime transport in the Adriatic Sea, focusing on passenger and freight transport.

More specifically, the two-days forum, attended by at least 200 participants, offered the opportunity for intense debate and a close look at issues of importance for the future of the cruise, ferry, sailing and motorboat sectors in the Adriatic, an area looked onto by 7 nations (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Greece, Montenegro, Italy and Slovenia) and which includes 25 regions and over 150 tourist destinations.

SUSPORT will attend the LET Expo on 8-11 March 2023 at Verona Fiere, Italy.

SUSPORT will be presented within the MIMOSA project on-line public event on December 10th 2021 at 10.00 o'clock.

The event titled "Intermodality and environmental impact" aims at disseminating and pomoting projects financed by Interreg Program.

SUSPORT final conference was held in Trieste on June 21st 2023.

Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)

In October 2013, the Executive Committee of the UN SDSN - Sustainable Development Solutions Network approved Venice International University's membership.

The Solutions Network is a UN initiative launched by Secretary General Ban Ki Moon on August 9, 2012, as a new, independent global network of research centres, universities and technical institutions to help to find solutions for some of the world's most pressing environmental, social and economic problems.

The Solutions Network mobilizes scientific and technical expertise from academia, civil society, and the private sector in support of sustainable development problem solving at local, national, and global scales.

VIU will bring its contribution to research, solution initiatives, and policy work. An integrated approach is at the basis of the work of both VIU and SDSN.

VIU is also member of the SDSN Mediterranean Regional Centre which fosters global SDSN activities within the Mediterranean Area region by developing and promoting solutions, policies and public education. SDSN Mediterranean is hosted by the University of Siena (Italy).

Activities of SDSN Mediterranean include:
- Cooperation and joint research activities among Mediterranean countries, universities and businesses;
- Development of practical solutions to sustainability issues relevant to the futureof the region;
- Elaboration of SDG indicators for the Mediterranean area;
- Promotion of networking activities among research centers, the diffusion of SDSN.edu education tools in the Mediterranean , and Euro-Mediterranean joint programming in the context of EU planning activities.
