Beijing and Shanghai Municipal EPBs Course on Water Management

For the fourth year, the Municipalities of Beijing and Shanghai join forces and send officials from their Environmental Protection Bureaus to attend the Advanced Training Program on Environmental Management organized in Italy by VIU.

 

This year a course on “Water and Ecological Management” is organized on May 8 -18 for a delegation of 30 participants, with lecturing sessions and site visits in Venice, Bologna and Rome.

 

Water ecological management is a core topic for China and even if the two Municipalities live different realities, they have common problems and can share possible solutions, to start a positive cooperation process.

 

With this purpose, the training course is composed of a mix of lectures focusing on several aspects of water management, such as EU Policy and Law on Water Protection, Water Basin Management and Control, Integrated Groundwater Management, Ecological Surface Water Management.

 

Other topics such as Water Pollution Monitoring and Urban Social Water Cycle are addressed during the site visits to ProAmbiente (Bologna), Veritas Ca’ Solaro Potabilization Plant (Venice) and Veritas PIF Water Treatment Plant (Venice). Site visits are aimed at involving the participants through a direct experience of the main topics of the course, while the presentation of examples and concrete cases during the lecturing sessions will hopefully raise a fruitful knowledge exchange.

Presentation of the 2016 Istanbul WEC - Call for Papers

On Thursday January 28, 2016, VIU hosted a presentation from the Turkish Organizing Committee of the 23rd World Energy Congress Istanbul (October 9-13, 2016).

 

The Istanbul World Energy Congress, which theme is "embracing New Frontiers", represents a global platform for governments, businesses, specialists and academics to address and discuss important energy-related issues in the context of meeting the needs of producers and consumers. The Congress is promoted by the World Energy Council (WEC), the world's principal network of energy leaders and practitioners, involving almost 100 countries.


The presentation by Prof. Ahmet Dursun Alkan offered to researchers, experts and students the possibility to learn more about the academic aspects of the Congress, that will hosts an international competition for papers on a wide range of burning energy issues.

23rd World Energy Congress Academic Session Call for Papers

The 23rd World Energy Congress will take place on 9-13 October 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey.


The Congress has an unrivalled reputation as a global platform for governments, businesses and specialists in terms of addressing important energy-related issues in the context of meeting the needs of producers and consumers.


The theme of the 2016 Congress is "Embracing New Frontiers". The Congress will offer unique opportunities for networking with global players, for discovery of cooperation possibilities, for providing investments and for access to new markets.


Important novelty of the 23rd World Energy Congress is the academic session on several burning issues related to energy (World Energy Scenarios, World Energy Resources and Technologies, World Energy Trilemma, Financing Resilient Energy Infrastructure). This session provides an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of the global energy community.

The UNEP-Tongji Institute of Environment for Sustainable Development (IESD), has opened the 2016 calls for the Master's and Doctoral Programmes that will be held in Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Venice International University at COP21 in Paris

Venice International University will be present at the COP 21 in Paris, the 21st Conference of the Parties at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

VIU has teamed up with REC to present its international capacity building successful experience for climate change mitigation.

The COP 21 will, for the first time in over 20 years of UN negotiations, try to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C.

The main objective of the annual Conference of Parties (COP) is to review the Convention's implementation. The first COP took place in Berlin in 1995 and significant meetings since then have included COP3 where the Kyoto Protocol was adopted, COP11 where the Montreal Action Plan was produced, COP15 in Copenhagen where an agreement to replace Kyoto Protocol was unfortunately not realised and COP17 in Durban where the Green Climate Fund was created.
